What does it cost to build and run an app with AI?
Understand credits, AI usage, running previews, third-party services and store costs before you budget your app.

Budget for building, running and publishing separately
Your Cicrew plan or top-up provides credits for work on the platform. The final cost of an app depends on its scope, the model used, how much revision it needs and how long its sandbox runs. A credit bundle is not a promise of a fixed number of finished apps.
A simple offline checklist has a different workload from an app with accounts, payments, uploads and multiple user roles. Start with one useful journey, verify it, then expand. This makes both progress and spending easier to understand.
What uses credits?
Platform-funded agent work is charged from observed input and output tokens at the configured model’s rates. A running sandbox uses credits based on its configured CPU and memory and elapsed time. Generated media can have a separate usage charge.
Starting work reserves credits. Usage is settled when the task finishes, and unused reservation amounts are released. A failed task can still consume tokens or machine time. Check Credit usage history in Billing for the actual charges.
When your balance is too low, add credits or upgrade before starting more work. Building the full plan continues the remaining steps and checks credits as it progresses.
What changes when you use your own model key?
A supported customer model key removes the platform’s token charge for calls made through that key. The provider bills you directly. Sandbox time still uses platform credits, so a customer key does not make building free.
A consumer chat subscription is not automatically an API credential. Connect the supported provider details requested in the workspace and check your provider’s own billing.
Costs outside your credit balance
Developer program fees, your production database, server hosting and third-party APIs are separate provider costs. Their free tiers, limits and billing depend on your account and usage. Your app can also incur payment processing charges if it sells something.
Ad spend is separate from credits. Campaign budgets are paid through your own connected ad account, with approval before spending. Platform credits cover the work that prepares the campaign.
- Plan or top-up for platform work.
- Database and hosting for your Development and Production environments.
- Any AI, maps, email or other APIs used by the finished app.
- Store accounts and cloud build usage.
- Optional payment processing and marketing spend.
Keep the first version affordable
Write down a small first release with clear acceptance criteria. Approve the main screens before implementation, test each milestone and explain specific problems when requesting changes. Stop a sandbox when you are finished using it.
Use the pricing page for current plans and top-ups, then review a small completed milestone’s real usage before budgeting the rest. We do not publish an “average app cost” until there is a representative measured sample behind it.
